, the founder of JFG Avocat law office, is a French attorney and an expert in patent and intellectual property litigation and counseling.


He is licensed to practice both in France and in New York state.

Since July 2018, Jean-François is a Partner at AMAR GOUSSU STAUB, a law firm specializing in intellectual property with a reputable practice in patent, trademark and IP litigation.   

Since he began his career in 1996
as an attorney at law in Paris, France, he has practiced intellectual property law at some of the most reputable French, European and U.S. intellectual property law firms in Paris and is a registered specialist in intellectual property law with the French Bars Council.

Over the past ten years, Jean-François has in particular been involved in numerous patent litigation matters and has acquired a torough experience of national and transnational patent litigation, including infringement proceedings, proceedings seeking a non-infringement declaratory judgment, nullity proceedings, proceedings to claim ownership of inventions, proceedings relating to employee inventions, proceedings aimed at obtaining interim injunctions, or proceedings following customs seizures of counterfeited goods.


In addition, he has handled a number of trademarks, designs, copyrights, know-how, trade secrets and unfair competition litigation matters.


He has also been involved in international arbitration proceedings, including before the International Chamber of Commerce, in disputes relating to
intellectual property license agreements.


Besides his litigation practice, Jean-François also regurlarly advises clients on their intellectual property strategy, on the management of patent and trademark portfolios, in drafting and negotiating intellectual property license and tranfer agreements, as well as in the framework of audits in case of mergers or acquisitions, or in relation to pre-contentious matters (clearance searches and opinions relating to freedom to operate), in all areas of intellectual property.  


Prior to joining AMAR GOUSSU STAUB, Jean-François started his career in 1996 at Ader, Jolibois & Associés, a French firm headed by Henri Ader, former Chairman of the Paris Bar Association, where he practiced counseling and litigation in corporate, commercial and intellectual property law. In 2001, he joined the legal department of Cabinet Régimbeau, a French and European patent and trademark attorneys. In 2002, he joined the intellectual property department of Oppenheimer, Wolff & Donnelly LLP headed by Serge Binn and Cyrille Amar, with whom he worked for more than four years. In 2007, he joined Howrey LLP in the French IP team headed by Denis Monégier du Sorbier and Marina Cousté, and became a partner of the firm. In 2011, he joined the French office of Hoyng Monégier European IP law firm. Jean-François subsequently founded JFG Avocat, in 2012.


Jean-François graduated from New York University, School of Law (LL.M., ’02) and Université Paris 2 Panthéon-Assas (DESS de propriété industrielle, ’93 ; DEA de droit privé général, ’94).


He is the author of several articles and specialized studies, and a regular speaker at conferences or seminars in the fields of patents and intellectual property law.
